Summer readers needed at library
The Sunnyvale Public Library is looking for readers of all ages to join the adult or children's summer reading programs.
Sign-ups for the adult summer reading program are at the reference desk until Aug. 3.
Participants sign a summer reading log with the title of any book they've finished reading since May 20. Books can be fiction or nonfiction, in any language. Unabridged recorded books also count. Bookmobile users are also eligible.
Readers receive a prize after completing the fourth book. After the eighth book, readers receive a free paperback or a gift certificate for use at the fall 2003 Friends of the Sunnyvale Library book sale on Oct. 4.
For more information, call the reference desk at 408.730.7300.
Music series to hit Murphy Street
People will be dancing in the streets of downtown Sunnyvale on Wednesday nights from July 9 to Sept. 10 as the Sunnyvale Downtown Association kicks off its fourth annual Sunnyvale Summer Series.
The Urban Village Farmers' Market will open at 5 p.m., featuring fruit, flowers, vegetables, gourmet food and arts and crafts. Wine, beer and soft drinks will be available for sale in booths staffed by community volunteer groups. Bands play from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
"It's really becoming a regular summer tradition, and we're thrilled to bring people to downtown Sunnyvale to see all the great things that are happening," said Joe Antuzzi, president of the Sunnyvale Downtown Association, which co-sponsors the event with the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce.
Call the Chamber at 408.736.4971, or visit http://www.svcoc.org for the schedule.
