Getting facts straight on tax for large business
The July 23 Sunnyvale Sun reported on proposed tax issues before the Sunnyvale City Council at their July 15 meeting. There are two factual errors I would like to correct.
The correct amount of business license taxes paid by large businesses in San Jose is $25,000, not the $2,500 reported.
The second correction has to do with The Sun's statement that the city council decided to ask voters to approve a fivefold increase in the business license tax and a specific increase in the transient occupancy tax.
In fact, council directed city staff to return proposed resolution language to them for their review, which, if approved, would place the two tax measures on the November ballot and define the amount of increase in each tax measure. The council will discuss these issues and is expected to take action at a special meeting on Aug. 6 at 5 p.m. in Sunnyvale City Council chambers.
