The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Possession of a controlled substance—Aug. 1, 1:37 p.m., 100 block of S. Sunnyvale Avenue. Upon an officer's entry into a room of a local inn, a man admitted to having in his possession a crack pipe and crack that he was smoking.

Grand theft—Aug. 1, 10 a.m., 700 block of E. El Camino Real. An unknown person stole a tire and damaged the front fender of a vehicle.

Petty theft—Aug. 1, 7 a.m., 100 block of S. Wolfe Road. A person observed a second person paying for one newspaper, which costs 35 cents. The person then removed about 20 newspapers from the news rack without paying for them. For the last year or so, the first person has been missing approximately 20 newspapers a day or 100 newspapers a week, which has resulted in a loss of $2,000 over the year.

Auto burglary—July 29, 3 p.m., 600 block of W. Macara Drive. An unknown person used an unknown tool to smash into the left rear passenger door of a person's vehicle, which was left locked and secured in the parking lot of a golf course. The person stole a laptop, a camera, a cable and a computer backpack. The stolen items were valued at about $2,600.

False evidence of registration—July 28, 8.34 p.m., 1000 block of Paintbrush Drive. While on patrol, an officer pulled over a vehicle for driving with no front license plate. The officer discovered the registration tab on the rear plate did not match the vehicle registration information.
