FUHSD begins the year with new school principal

With the new school year starting there's a changing of the guard in the Fremont Union High School District.

Nancy Braughton is the district's new director of human resources.

Braughton began her career in education as an elementary teacher in the early 1970s in the Newark Unified School District. She transferred to San Jose Unified School District in 1972 and worked various positions for 21 years.

Braughton is experienced in the field of human resources. She has served as director of certificated personnel in the San Jose Unified School District and assistant superintendent of human resources in the San Mateo­Foster City School District. Before accepting her current job, she was working as assistant superintendent of human resources for the North Monterey County Unified School District.

Mike White is the new principal of Lynbrook High School for the 2003­2004 school year. Superintendent Steve Rowley, who recommended this appointment, said, "Mike enjoys enormous support and credibility from the students, staff, and community of Lynbrook High School. His entire skill set is a great advantage to the school--he understands the culture very well.

White joined the Fremont Union High School District in 1999 as assistant principal at Lynbrook High School. Before coming to Lynbrook, White worked at James Logan High School in the New Haven Unified School District from 1989 to 1999 in various positions--assistant principal, house principal, coordinator of noninstructional services and student union coordinator.

Tami McMillan is the new assistant principal at Lynbrook High School. Superintendent Rowley said McMillan is a recognized teacher leader at Lynbrook for her enthusiastic work in staff development and infusion of technology into the curriculum. She was highly recommended by new Principal Mike White as his successor as assistant principal at the high school.

McMillan was named Teacher of the Year in May 2003. As a business teacher, she also taught economics in the social studies department and served as advisor for the future business leaders of America club and the National Honor Society.
