The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Grand theft—Sept. 14, 5:40 p.m., 200 block of W. Washington Avenue. An unknown person stole a round 1.05-carat diamond ring from a department store. The person grabbed the ring from a sales assistant who was displaying the ring and ran out of the store. The person was not apprehended. The stolen ring is worth $6,435.

Petty theft—Sept. 14, 1:30 p.m. 200 block of W. Iowa Avenue. A person left a department store with merchandise without paying for the items. After being confronted by store security personnel the person admitted to taking the items. The officer cited and released the person.

Auto burglary—Sept. 12, 12:30 a.m., 700 block of E. Evelyn Avenue. An unknown person forced entry into a vehicle by cutting through the convertible top, peeling it back and reaching in to unlock the passenger side door. The person then cut the wires and removed the stereo. The stereo was worth $615.

Attempted robbery—Sept. 11, 4:20 p.m., 800 block of E. El Camino Real. A person approached a man from behind and demanded money. The person pushed the man to the ground and held him down while he reached into his pockets. A witness confronted the person who fled the scene eastbound on El Camino Real. The man was left uninjured and no property was taken. Officers contacted the person who fled the scene, and the person gave a false name to the officers. The officers booked the person into county jail.

Disturbing the peace—Sept. 9, 6:06 p.m., 1000 block of Reed Avenue. An officer responded to an apartment complex on the report of a person disturbing the peace. Upon arrival the officer heard loud music coming from one unit. The reporting party said the music was a chronic problem. After several attempts to persuade the man playing the loud music to come to the door, the man told the officer through the door, "You're gonna need the SWAT team!" The officer decided to force entry and arrested the man.
