The ladies of the Sunnyvale Community Services Auxiliary are busy wrapping up preparations for their 32nd annual Holiday Affaire, a boutique and bazaar that benefits the Sunnyvale Community Services Christmas center.
Working under the auspices of Sunnyvale Community Services, the auxiliary labors all year to produce holiday ornaments, toys, jewelry, jams and jellies, baked goods and other handmade items to be sold at the boutique. All items are either made by or donated to the auxiliary. A queen-sized quilt, a creation of the auxiliary, will be given away as a raffle prize.
The event is expected to raise $4,000 to $5,000. The bulk of the money comes from selling raffle tickets for the queen-sized quilt, Margaret Maletis, president of the auxiliary said.
Proceeds from the event go to Sunnyvale Community Services, which serves low-income families and seniors with food and emergency assistance.
The auxiliary also prepares and donates around 300 stockings for children of families who shop at the Community Services Christmas program.
The Holiday Affaire is the auxiliary's primary annual fundraiser. The group of 12 to 15 women meets every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the community services building at 725 Kifer Road.
Nancy Tivol, director of Community Services, says the boutique is directed toward all Sunnyvale residents, not just philanthropists. "Anybody can use the items and anybody can afford these items. There are reasonable prices and really creative goods. This isn't some high-priced designer boutique," says Tivol.
The boutique will take place at Murphy Park on Nov. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Murphy Park is located at the corner of N. Sunnyvale and E. California Avenues. For more information call 408.245.7492 or 408.739.4236.
