Islamic author to discuss new book

Javed Mohammed, author of Gems of Wisdom, will appear at the Sunnyvale Public Library to discuss his new book, Islam 101, on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

The free event will include presentations from Bay Area Muslim community leaders on a wide range of topics such as women in Islam, jihad, Islamic poetry, humor and the basics of Islam.

Vintage lace-covered ornaments on sale

The Lace Museum in Sunnyvale is holding a holiday lace sale, featuring vintage as well as contemporary handmade lace to cover special, one-of-a-kind ornaments.

The ornaments come in many sizes and are priced from $5 to $50. All proceeds from the sale will go to the maintenance of the Lace Museum.

The sale runs from Nov. 8 to Dec. 24. The Lace Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is located at 552 S. Murphy Ave. and has free parking.

Also starting Nov. 8 is a free exhibit, entitled "A Dolls Vintage Christmas Party," of heirloom dolls wearing fashionable, lace-trimmed garments and accessories.

The Lace Museum is the only lace museum in the western part of the United States and showcases one of the most extensive collections of lace and lace tools.
