Holiday decorations save feathers, fur

For Other Living Things, a Sunnyvale pet supply store, is working this holiday season to support local animal rescue agencies.

The Rescue Tree 2003 event, going on through December at the 1261 S. Mary Ave. store, offers interested people a chance to purchase ornaments, or buy "wish-list" items, with all items and proceeds going to eight local organizations, including the Humane Society of Silicon Valley.

Time to nominate for Athena awards

The Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for the Athena Award, given each year to a woman who has achieved professional excellence, served the community and helped women reach full leadership potential.

The Athena Foundation is dedicated to encouraging women to apply their talent and expertise to communities, business and government.

Started in Lansing, Mich., in 1982, the award is now given in hundreds of cities in the United States and Canada.

In the past six years, Sunnyvale recipients have included Sunnyvale Community Services Executive Director Nancy Tivol, former mayors Pat Vorreiter and Julia Miller and Chamber of Commerce President Suzi Blackman.

For nomination forms or information, call the Chamber at 408.736.4971 or visit the Web site at www.svcoc.org.

All nominations must be received by Dec. 15.
