Homestead girl candidate for the president's scholar
By Allison Rost
Jennifer Neff, daughter of David and Laura Neff of Sunnyvale, has been named a candidate in the 2004 Presidential Scholars Program. A senior at Homestead High School, Neff is one of only 2,600 candidates nationwide to be selected for the honor.

Presidential Scholars are chosen based on a number of academic factors, including stellar test scores, essays and school recommendations. A commission will select 500 semifinalists in early April, and one boy and one girl will be chosen as Scholars from each state in May.

Winners will receive their medallions at a June ceremony in Washington, D.C., where they will also meet with elected officials and other public figures.

Neff, 17, is a National Merit Scholar semifinalist and currently holds a 4.0 grade point average. She is also involved with Girl Scouts and has embarked on summer tours with the Starfire Singers, a youth choir with Los Altos United Methodist Church.

Neff hopes to attend Pomona College in the fall.
