Historical society hits $1 million mark

Efforts to build an 8,000-square-foot historical museum in Sunnyvale got a boost of confidence when the funding pool hit the $1 million mark with the $50,000 a local family donated to the project.

The Sunnyvale Historical Society and Museum Association hopes to begin construction on the building at Heritage Park by July 2005, but needs to raise just over a half-million dollars more to meet the $1.6 million budget.

Campaign leader and planning commission veteran Laura Babcock said the latest donation, bringing the pot to $1 million after only 15 months, shows the support in the community for the historical museum.

The next fundraiser is an orchard walk-a-thon at 9:30 a.m. on April 17 .
