Last year's production of 42nd Street was a genuine showstopper for the drama department at The King's Academy. But according to those behind the department's upcoming musical production of Anything Goes, it was just a warm-up for the spectacular performance that's to come this year.

"The caliber of the dancers has increased," says Maryann Palm, one of the show's co-producers. "In 42nd Street, the majority of the kids had never tapped before, but a lot of those same kids came back for this show."

The private parochial school attracts theater buffs from all over the Bay Area with its distinguished drama program, and every year, stages a major performance that takes nearly the full school year to produce. Anything Goes held auditions in early fall, and rehearsals began in November. The cast moves to its theater at the College of San Mateo on March 8 for the last step.

"The biggest transition is the tech week in the actual theater," Palm says. "We have to get the sets to work with lighting, the sound, the costumes—all the pieces." Two separate casts will each perform half of the six scheduled shows, and Anything Goes will also be the last production for several prominent graduating seniors, including actor Alan Krimmer and choreographer Stephanie Paulus.

Anything Goes opens on March 12 at 7:30 p.m. For more information or tickets, call 408.481.9900, ex. 320 or email tkadramatix@aol.com.
