Several basketball standouts from Homestead and Fremont were decorated with all-Santa Clara Valley Athletic League honors recently, as coaches of boys and girls teams in the De Anza and El Camino divisions recognized many players for jobs well done in 2004.

Senior guard/forward Mandy Wald and sophomore center Becky Tratter of Homestead were given first-team recognition in the De Anza girls division, while Fremont junior Dan Bergeron was tabbed first team in the De Anza boys circuit.

Local players joining Wald and Tratter on the De Anza girls first team are junior guard Nikki Chang of Lynbrook, senior guard Jessica Norvelle of Los Gatos, and forward Bryte Nielsen and guard Victoria Liu of Saratoga. Palo Alto's Jossy Teng, a senior guard, was named Most Valuable Player.

Among the second-team selections for De Anza girls are senior guard Jenelle Kitasoe of Homestead, Los Gatos forwards Katy McClenathen and Madeline Rose, junior guard Vickie Chien of Lynbrook and junior forward Julia Anderson of Saratoga.

Seniors Tiffany Tan of Saratoga and Melanie Wen of Monta Vista and juniors Mellissa Manuel of Homestead and Tiffany Pan of Lynbrook were given honorable mention recognition by the league's coaches.
