Linn tops Mustangs
When Homestead and The King's Academy got together for a non-league baseball game on April 13, it was a reunion of sorts.
Homestead coach Chuck Camuso was visiting the diamond that he coached on from 1964'82, and King's pitcher Jason Linn was working against several players that he had played with and against during his Sunnyvale Southern Little League days.
Although Chris Bailey crushed a home run to key a four-run uprising against his former teammate in the fourth inning, Linn and the Knights came away with a 5-4 win and their first of three victories last week.
Kings whipped Private Schools Athletic League rival St. Lawrence Academy 9-3 on April 16, then nipped non-league foe Willow Glen 6-5 in nine innings the next day. The three-game streak improved the Knights' overall mark to 12-5.
Against Homestead's potent offense, Linn allowed just three earned runs and had eight strikeouts over six innings. Andrew Biederman, who earned a save by striking out two Mustangs in a scoreless seventh inning, drove in two of the King's runs. Linn and Tim Biederman both had two hits and an RBI.
Mike Perez scored three runs and drove in three against St. Lawrence. Five of the Knights' seven hits went for extra bases. Perez had two triples and a double, and winning pitcher Matt Gustafson had a triple and a double.
