Fair to offer health
and safety advice
Those concerned about their health can take advantage of the free screenings offered by the city of Sunnyvale at its fifth annual Health & Safety Fair on May 22.
Cholesterol and hearing tests are just a few of the services provided during the fair, which will be held at the Columbia Neighborhood Center. The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety will administer a number of booths, including fingerprinting stations, defibrillator demonstrations and bicycle safety inspections.
Those attending can also enjoy a performance by Perfection on Wheels, a Southern California-based BMX bike stunt team.
The fair will last from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Columbia Neighborhood Center is located at 785 Morse Ave., adjacent to Columbia Middle School. For more information, call 408.730.7599.
Volunteers needed for day camp
Volunteers can make a difference in a child's life this summer. Sacred Heart Community Service, located at 1381 S. First St. in downtown San Jose, needs volunteers age 16 and up to serve in its Academic Summer Day Camp for disadvantaged youth.
Volunteers are asked to commit to one morning a week for five weeks, or four mornings during a single week.
Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 28 through July 29.
Ongoing volunteer opportunities are also available in the Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, Housing Assistance, Joblink, and Welcome Center programs.
Bilingual volunteers are especially needed.
