Servicemen, families
come for R and R
To bring much-needed rest and relaxation to local military personnel and their families, the South Bay Military Affairs Council is holding an interservice sports day at Moffett Field's Chase Park on June 3.
Councilman Ron Swegles said that some of the soldiers planning to attend have just recently returned from service overseas, and this event will allow them to spend time with the family and friends.
The sports day will feature sporting events throughout the day, including softball, basketball, and volleyball. There will also be a Sunnyvale fire engine on site for children to look at.
The event starts promptly at 0900 hours—9 a.m. for civilians—with a barbecue lunch at noon. Lunch is free for servicemen, with a nominal charge for other attendees.
Because the event is on base, all attendees will have to pass through security checkpoints.

Sponsors needed
for Red Cross drives
Before potential blood donors head off for summer vacations, the American Red Cross needs their help.
The organization is looking for sponsors to hold blood drives at their businesses and schools to help the Red Cross reach its goal of a five to seven day blood supply in California in case of a disaster. Thirty percent of the current two-day supply is brought in from other states.
Those interested in sponsoring a blood drive must be able to supply at least 40 donors and a room of 1,000 square feet or larger for one day. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh over 110 pounds and be in good health.
