CSA is one way to stay
in touch with agriculture

I grew up in this area, so it's a little sad to hear about the last of the Olsons' orchards being developed.

I'm glad to say we found something to augment the farmers market when we heard about Community Supported Agriculture from some friends, but the closest delivery point used to be Willow Glen.

We now have a CSA that delivers in Sunnyvale—Live Earth Farm [in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Watsonville]. We've enjoyed the celebrations at the farm, which happen about once a month. My children especially love to visit the animals and pick some fruit themselves. I'm glad to have a place where my kids can pick as they walk, as I used to with the apricots on my way to school.

Gallery closed to keep artists and public safe

The Sun's June 30 story on the gallery closure and subsequent support by FOG was an excellent story.

However, I feel it needs some further clarification. As one of the art commissioners who voted for the closure, I cannot speak for the rest of us, but the facts as presented to us by the parks and recreation staff were that the gallery needed a major electrical overhaul and it was currently unsafe to use.

During this time of fiscal responsibility and budgetary constraints, the decision to close was obviously extremely difficult, and we did that rather than cut some valuable programs. All of the current art commissioners would be thrilled to have the gallery reopen.

I would be the first to volunteer my time and effort to make that happen. But as I reiterated before, having the electrical fixed so that artists and their work plus the viewing public were safe was our main concern.
