Brandishing a knife—Aug. 13, 11:45 p.m., 800 block of E. Taylor Avenue. A woman's son saw a suspicious man slumped over in front of his mother's house. He approached the man, and the man became verbally hostile, pulled out a pocketknife and begin gesturing like he was going to stab the son. The son punched the man, knocking him out.
Under the influence of a controlled substance—Aug. 13, 11:26 p.m., Morse and Taylor avenues. Officers contacted a man holding a flashlight near a vehicle in a poorly lit area. While talking, the man seemed nervous. He was speaking rapidly and could not hold still. His pupils were dilated and his pulse was fast. His eyelids were also trembling rapidly. He was arrested and taken to jail.
Domestic violence, battery—Aug. 13, 9:15 p.m., 1000 block of Oleander Court. A couple began verbally arguing in their car on the way home from the store and became physical when they arrived home. With both hands, the man pushed the woman into the garage door, then shoved her into the bushes along the walkway leading up to their front door. She was not injured, but police took photographs, and the man was arrested.
Petty theft—Aug. 13, 7 p.m., 600 block of S. Bernardo Avenue. Two people entered a supermarket and hid eight items in a purse under a stroller. They attempted to leave after only paying for some milk and were stopped by store personnel. They were brought back into the store, and police were contacted.
