The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Passing fictitious checks--Aug. 26, 5:21 p.m., 600 block of N. Fair Oaks Avenue. An unknown person tried to use a fake $400 check to buy groceries. When the clerk found the check was fake, the man was arrested and booked into county jail.

Possession of a controlled substance--Aug. 26, 5:07 p.m., Borregas Avenue and Garner Drive. An officer stopped a man and searched him. The officer found two baggies of methamphetamines and other drug paraphernalia in the man's pocket.

Possession of a controlled substance--Aug. 26, 4 p.m., 100 block of W. Evelyn Avenue. Officers were called out on medical assistance for a train passenger. They found a man under the influence of a controlled substance. A search of the man found a hypodermic needle containing a brown liquid that tested positive as .2 gram of heroin. He was arrested and taken to department of public safety headquarters.

Possession of an illegal weapon--Aug. 26, 3:27 p.m., 600 block of Almanor Avenue. An officer contacted two men in a car parked in a dark, secluded part of a parking lot. He checked their identification and noticed an open bottle of brandy on the floorboard. One of the men said there was "weed" in the car and a BB gun in his backpack. A subsequent vehicle search revealed three glass pipes used for smoking methamphetamines, a small bag of marijuana and a sock filled with 8­10 AA batteries, tied with a knot. The officer determined that both men were possibly under the influence.
