Sunnyvale public safety officers arrested six suspects in a shooting that left two men dead near the Lakewood Elementary School campus on the night of Oct. 12.
Captain Chuck Eaneff said witnesses in the neighborhood who heard the shooting helped police find the suspects—four adults and two juveniles—less than 12 hours after the fatal shootings.
Public safety officers arrested Kevin Powell, 22, and Mykal Myrick, 21, both of San Jose, Annie Shears, 18, from Santa Clara, and 19-year-old Jamilla Butler of Sunnyvale and charged each of them with two murder counts and one count of conspiracy. Two juveniles—whose names will not be released—were also charged and booked into juvenile detention.
Neighbors found victims Carlos Walker, 25, and Christopher Herrador, 25, lying near the school at the intersection of Lakechime and Meadowlake drives at around 8 p.m. Neighbors also reported seeing a fight between the men and another group, and that the group fled in unidentified vehicles after the shooting.
Police, fire and medical units responded to the shooting, and although care was given to the men, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
"It appears that this was not an act of random violence or related to drug or gang activities," Eaneff said about the shooting. "It appears to have been a domestic dispute."
