He grew up in Sunnyvale
and coached in Cupertino
Former Sunnyvale resident and Cupertino Little League coach W. Duane Denman died on Oct. 27 in Fort Collins, Colo. He was 61.

Denman grew up in Sunnyvale, where he went to Cupertino Junior High School and graduated from Fremont High School in 1961. While attending San José State University, he belonged to the Sigma Pi fraternity and was a member of the Flying 20's.

After graduating in 1971, he worked as a real estate agent in Gilroy, where he lived much of his life. He was a member of the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce and the Gilroy Elks Lodge and supported the Gilroy Garlic Festival. But his oldest grandson, Andrew, drew him back to the area. Denman coached Andrew's team with Cupertino National Little League for a number of years.

A memorial was held for Denman at the Kennedy Middle School gymnasium on Nov. 6.

Denman is survived by his three children--David Denman of Fort Collins, Colo., Kelley Denman of Cupertino and Kari Duffy of Breckenridge, Colo.--and five grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cupertino National Little League Association in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, CO 80524.
