Cartoonist doesn't make
a point, is just insulting

I think The Sun is overdue in giving your political cartoonist the axe. In my opinion I find most of his cartoons to be pointless but almost always to be insulting.

Last week's cartoon was a prime example of how he likes to insult the members of the city council without making any kind of pertinent point. The members of our council were duly elected by the citizens of Sunnyvale, winning their seats by significant margins. They all work many hours a week taking care of city business as well as serving on many county and bay area committees that require many more hours of their time.

If they make a dollar an hour they are probably doing well. Don't get me wrong I think they deserve to be criticized when they do things that are not in the best interest of the citizens of Sunnyvale but none of them deserves to be insulted, especially in pointless cartoons.

Ramadan talk allowed
for good connections

Thank you for printing a news brief about the AAUW event focusing on Ramadan. As the month of Ramadan ends, I am reminded that the news brief made a special experience available to a number of people in our community. What a treat it was to hear about the season of Ramadan and about some of the basic tenets of the faith of Islam. We exchanged ideas. As a Christian Scientist who believes that there is one God, the creator, who creates good, I could see many parallels in the ideas important to each of us.

I am grateful to have met such a delightful, energetic young woman as Bilge Ozaydin who was open to sharing points of Islam, which are important to her and to her everyday life. This opportunity to share ideas was repeated during the AAUW event. I am grateful that your paper alerted the community to this event and to the opportunity to share ideas. To have this opportunity to appreciate and respect how much alike we are as well as how unique we are is a service to your readers.
