I am offended to the point of outrage by the DeCinzo cartoon about Tony Spitaleri (Nov. 23).

More than anyone I have ever known, Spitaleri is the epitome of an outstanding citizen and dedicated public servant.

I find your caricature a vile insinuation and ethnic slur. In my opinion, you have crossed the line.

As a resident of Mountain View, I did not have the honor to vote for Spitaleri, but rest assured, he has my full support.

Cartoon disrespectful

I am writing regarding DeCinzo's cartoon in The Sun (Nov. 23.).

Coming from an Italian family we found it to be quite offensive. I also find that it is disrespectful to the public safety officers, city councilmen and the supporters of Tony Spitaleri.

We were disappointed to see that you would approve such a cartoon.

I found DeCinzo's "Cartoonist's View" of Tony Spitaleri disgraceful and defamatory. To depict any city official in such a light reflects badly on your newspaper.

Depiction of Spitaleri
as MaÞa is disservice

I am writing to express my disdain at the recent cartoon published in last week's Sun and its portrayal of newly elected Councilman Tony Spitaleri.

My parents were born in Italy, and I'm a proud American and a former Marine who served in Vietnam.

Being of Italian descent, I am naturally appalled at the depiction of Spitaleri as a Mafia chief and the concept that all American Italians are gangsters. I cannot understand how your publication can allow such a derogatory pictorial.

I'm sure the police department and present counsel members are as disappointed as I am.

I did not vote for Spitaleri and am not one of his political advocates but I'm simply irritated at the nature of the cartoon. I have discussed this issue with all of my associates (both Italian and non), and they are all equally taken aback at this disservice.

I hope in the future you scrutinize what is printed and be more careful at what is allowed to be distributed.

Cartoon on Spitaleri,
election gets it right

DeCinzo's political cartoon (Nov. 23) on the city council election and Spitaleri was right on. He said it all.
