Sunnyvale resident is victim of lottery scam
By Jason Goldman-Hall
Another lottery scam has occurred in Sunnyvale, but this time, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety says it included a strong-arm robbery.

On Dec. 10, at about 10:30 a.m., two men approached a 44-year-old man in the Sunnyvale Costco parking lot. They told the man that they had a winning lottery ticket but needed to pay a deposit before retrieving their winnings. They then said that they were not legal residents, and needed the victim to withdraw the money from his account to make the deposit.

According to DPS investigators, they took the man to a local bank and had him withdraw an unspecified amount of money. One of the men then forcibly grabbed the money and fled.

One of the men is described as a 28- to 32-year-old Latino, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds. The other man also described as Latino was approximately 32 years old, 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. The two men fled in a late-model black American-made car with a leather interior.

A similar lottery scam occurred in Sunnyvale on Nov. 21. Anyone with information is asked to call Det.Eric Suzuki at 408.730.7130.
