Community Newspapers names Bogart editor

Carol Bogart, former managing editor of the Pleasanton Weekly and city editor of the Hayward Daily Review, has been named editor of the Cupertino Courier.

She replaces Sandy Sims, who has been with the Community Newspapers for some eight years, the last three of which, she served as editor of the Courier.

"Under Sandy's leadership, the Courier became a significant voice in the community," said Dale Bryant, executive editor. "She was sensitive to the concerns of old-timers as well as more recent residents and didn't shy away from coverage that looked at serious community issues."

Bogart, who started her journalism career as a TV reporter and later wrote for the Associated Press, brings with her a deep commitment to the kind of fiecely local journalism practiced at the Community Newspapers. Her first job in print journalism was for a small weekly in Tiffin, Ohio.

"I'm delighted with this opportunity, and eager to get acquainted with local residents," Bogart said. "Sandy and the rest of the staff have been so warm and welcoming, I know it's going to be a wonderful experience."

Bogart, who just moved to San Jose, has a son who is a student at San José State University.

Like her predecessor, she will also edit the Sunnyvale Sun.
