Arts groups share award from council

By JASON GOLDMAN-HALL

Three Sunnyvale arts groups will share $6,770 donated by Arts Council Silicon Valley to support local projects in the South Bay.

The grants are a part of the council's Community Arts Fund, used to support activities that showcase the South Bay's diverse cultures and traditional art forms. More than $362,000 was distributed to 102 organizations in the South Bay as a whole.

In Sunnyvale, the Chinese Orchestra of North America received $2,172 to put on its annual fall concert at Foothill College.

The Nova Vista Symphony Association received $2,251 to produce its four-concert festival season and provide free concerts for Santa Clara County public schools.

The final group, the Silicon Valley Fund, got $2,347 for its fifth annual concert of Chinese folk songs and dances with a full Chinese orchestra.

In 15 years, the council has given $8 million in funds to local arts and cultural organizations. The Community Arts Fund alone has given out almost $1.6 million.
