Parent expresses her
support for lost teacher

In a city that prides itself on education among other things, it is disheartening to hear of Mr. Krieger's departure from Monta Vista High School (Courier July 19).

Mr. Krieger has been an educator and friend to both of my sons as well as an inspiration to hundreds of others. He has earned my highest respect for the level of devotion and energy poured into the development of our youth.

Reader is offended
by DeCinzo cartoon

I have enjoyed DeCinzo's cartoons in the past. However, the cartoon (Sun, July 26) was very disappointing as it used the deity's name in vain. I and other Christians were offended. Please respect religious beliefs in future editions.

Tasteless cartoon is
insulting, pointless

This is not the first time I have publicly been critical of Mr. DeCinzo and his insulting cartoons that offer no relevance of any kind. The one published in the Sun July 26 undoubtedly wins the prize as the worst ever. It has no meaningful message whatsoever, and is insulting to all expectant mothers, let alone council member Hamilton and the other council members.

I hope the new owners of the paper will recognize that Mr. DeCinzo has got to go.

Councilwoman incensed
by DeCinzo's cartoon

For the second time in two months, I find myself in the appalling position of a female in a leadership position who suffers personal attacks for my desire to have children while in office.

DeCinzo's offensive cartoon is an inappropriate personal attack not worthy of any real newspaper. There is a difference between legitimate political discourse and pointless, insulting personal attacks. This cartoon says nothing about my policy decisions, choosing instead to criticize my personal choice to have a family. This incident speaks even more strongly for the need to have maternity and paternity leave as a part of our city charter so that future council members will have the same protections that working parents have under federal law. It's not trivial, as some community members charge. It confers a right that allows council members to focus on doing the real business of the city instead of dealing with personal attacks.

While every single member of this council has children, only the two of mine have been subjected to ridicule and derision by DeCinzo. But I suppose that's to be expected from a cartoonist so clueless that after three years in office and two offensive, baby-related cartoons, he still can't get my first name right.
