Lindsey, Sterling each toss in three goals to lead Fremont to polo win

Four goals in the first period and four more in the fourth sparked first-place Fremont to a 9-4 girls water polo triumph over visiting Homestead on Oct. 3.
Senior Aimee Lindsey and junior Julia Sterling each tallied three goals for the Firebirds, who finished the first half of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division's double round-robin schedule unbeaten at 7-0.
Senior Samantha Ellis added two goals and junior Abby McNeil had one, as Fremont improved its overall record to 9-2.
Emily Pool, Melissa Sullivan, Jenny Coryell and Justine Darmanian scored goals for Homestead.
Homestead won the boys match-up, 12-8, as Mustang senior Alex Romanko pumped in a game-high five goals. Geovid Kali and Derrick Lee scored two apiece for the Mustangs. Jeff Meadows, Kevin Conti and Vikash Nandkeshwar each chipped in with one. Michael Bursky and Danny Moctezuma drilled in three apiece to lead Fremont. Tony Rhodes and Vlad Kozyrev also scored for the Firebirds.
Two days later, Homestead returned to the Fremont pool and walloped Harker 18-2. Juniors Collin Russum (five goals) and Justin Aflatooni (three) paced the attack for the Mustangs, who improved to 4-3 in El Camino play and 9-6 overall. Kali and Meadows scored two apiece for Homestead. Kallie Wikman, Kevin Crane, Taylor Stanton, Romanko, Lee and Nandkeshwar each added one.
