Close call for youngster hit by car
By JASON GOLDMAN-HALL
An Ellis Elementary School fifth-grader is listed in guarded condition from injuries he received after being hit by a car on Fair Oaks Avenue on Oct. 9.
According to Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Deputy Chief Tim Johnson, the 10-year old was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by a sub-compact car. He rolled off the car and into the side of another car that was stopped nearby.
He was taken to the closest hospital and treated for multiple fractures and lacerations. Because of the major trauma to the child, the Sunnyvale Major Injury Accident Team responded to the scene.
On the scene the child was assessed as being in moderate condition, but that was upgraded to critical when he got to the hospital and the full extent of the injuries was discovered.
Both drivers stayed on the scene after the accident, and Johnson said no citations have been issued, although the accident is still under investigation.
Witnesses are encouraged to contact officer Anthony Tani at 408.730.7109.
