Twelve Knights win all-league football spots
By MIKE BARNHART
The King's Academy football team's fantastic season was punctuated recently when 12 Knights received post-season recognition from the coaches of the Bay Football League.
After finishing 8-2 overall and claiming a share of the league championship with Salesian of Richmond and Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton, the Knights' most productive offensive and defensive were selected to the all-BFL first team.
The running back duo of junior Jacob Bliss and senior Steven Lim, who combined for 2,192 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns, paced the Knights' four offensive selections to the first team, and senior linebacker Josiah Auer, who recorded 102 tackles during 2006, paced the three defensive picks. Three other seniors, quarterback Sammy Sussman, offensive tackle Josh Moran and defensive end Jordan Martin and sophomore defensive back Ben Sussman also were first team choices.
TKA's second team selections were senior running back Kyle McDonald, junior guard Ryan Ponce and sophomore center Ben Vidovich on offense and senior cornerback Daniel Detrinidad and sophomore linebacker Travis Johnson on defense.
JV football
TKA sophomore linebacker Nathan Linn earned the league title of Most Valuable Defensive Player. Linn was joined by seven teammates on the first team, Brandon Herold, Garrett Kray, Matt Bosch, David Shirey, Jared Bradley, Aaron Liu and Rizal Marquez.
Five other Knights were tabbed to the second team--Ben Murti, Joe Phillips, Kevin McLaughlin, Nick Justice and Anthony Sandoval-Junio.
Cross country
Junior Matt Giusti, who placed second among Division V boys at the Central Coast Section cross country championships in November, and senior Sean Robinson earned all-Private Schools Athletic League first team honors. Junior Joe Sereda was named to the second team.
Sophomore Priya Pappu and senior Kristen Butelo, medalists in the CCS Division V girls race, were all-PSAL first team picks. Two other TKA seniors, Monica Monari (first team) and Emily Henderson (second team), earned all-league recognition.
Girls volleyball
A pair of juniors, setter Hannah Hays and outside hitter Natasha Bell, and sophomore defensive specialist Tamara Bell earned all-PSAL first team honors for TKA's girls volleyball team. Senior Katie Milligan and sophomore Leighah Darnell were named to the second team, and freshman Annika Awbrey received honorable mention.
Boys soccer
Seniors Paul Sousa and Brad Morrison, along with junior Tyler Aagard and sophomore Chris Meyer, were The King's Academy's first team selections on the all-PSAL boys soccer team.
Four other Knights were honored. Senior Joe Boice and junior Billy Burnside were second team, and junior Greg Metz and sophomore Michael Teruel were honorable mention.
Girls tennis
Abby McCallum and Anishka George, top singles players for the King's tennis team, were all-PSAL first team selections after a fine fall season. Teammates Brenna Grove and Nicole Isaacson earned second team, and Brittany Rudolph, Bonnie Chih and Samantha Fong were honorable mention.
