Town Center Update

By Stephen Baxter

The Sun periodically updates readers on the $400 million Town Center redevelopment project headed by Sand Hill Property Co.

*The demolition contractor has assigned two full-time street sweepers to clean roads around the Town Center, and the daily pace of trucks leaving the project has swelled from 300 to 500. Sunnyvale public safety officers are monitoring the dirt-hauling trucks as they leave the project to ensure that they obey traffic laws.

*Underground parking garage excavation west of Target is done, and excavation west of Macy's is almost done. This phase is expected to finish in four weeks, and most of the mall has been demolished.

*The developer has submitted plans for improvements to the corner of S. Mathilda and W. Washington avenues.

*The city invites residents to a public meeting June 28 to show project plans and answer questions. It will be held 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Plaza Del Sol, 200 W. Evelyn Ave.
