Assault, car theft suspect sought by Sunnyvale cops
By Stephen Baxter
A 21-year-old parolee is alleged to have evaded Sunnyvale authorities by stealing a car from a mobile home park, crashing it and running away.
At about 9:30 p.m. on June 25, a Sunnyvale Public Safety officer confronted San Jose's Alejandro Alcala near N. Fair Oaks Avenue and Weddell Drive in Sunnyvale.
Alcala was wanted on a parole violation, and he fled to Cape Cod mobile home park at 1050 Borregas Ave., said Sunnyvale Lt. Dave Pitts said.
Alcala entered the mobile home of a 76-year-old woman and allegedly assaulted her before her son chased him off. Alcala went in another mobile home, stole some car keys and drove away, Pitts said. Police say he was spotted leaving the park and officers in a car chased him into the Lake Cunningham area of East San Jose.
Police say Alcala crashed into a chain-link fence and ran away. A police helicopter and about 100 law enforcement officials from San Jose, Mountain View, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale then searched for hours but could not find him.
Sunnyvale officers quit at about 6 a.m., June 26, Pitts said.
Alcala is wanted for assault, burglary, car theft, kidnapping and reckless evasion of police officers, authorities said.
Anyone with information about Alcala is asked to call the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety at 408.730.7110, or call 911.
