Bliss leads King's to win
By MIKE BARNHART
Running back Jacob Bliss and his team, The King's Academy, were up to their old tricks during their season opener at Overfelt last Friday night.
After running for 1,240 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns to help the Knights achieve an 8-2 record and a North Coast Section playoff berth in 2006, Bliss started the new season with a bang.
The 6-foot, 185-pound senior scored two touchdowns in TKA's 27-12 victory, a seven-yard run and a 26-yard scoring pass from junior quarterback Tim Mohnhaupt.
Senior fullback John Hutchinson also scored two touchdowns, both one-yard runs, and added a two-point conversion run in the second quarter that gave TKA a 14-0 lead.
Senior Steve Petiti kicked a PAT for the Knights, who will open Bay Valley Conference play, Sept. 13 in Fremont against California School for the Deaf.
Junior defensive end Travis Johnson had 14 tackles for the Knights, including three sacks. Overfelt's passing offense produced 162 yards and both of its touchdowns, but the Knights yielded just 89 rushing yards.
