Volunteers bring in 10 tons of fun
The Rotary Club of Cupertino brought a fun weekend of snow activities to Camp Costanoan, the only year-round residential camp for children, youths and adults with disabilities and special needs in Santa Clara County. The event, called Operation Snowflake, took place Dec. 15 and 16.
While the Rotary Club was the sponsor, the event was a joint effort with other organizations such as such as Stevens Creek Quarry and the Cupertino branch of the nonprofit Lions Club.
Volunteers had 10 tons of snow shipped to the camp, located in the Santa Cruz Mountains on the border of Cupertino and Saratoga. Around 60 campers participated in snow activities that included a sled run and a snowman-building contest.
When the campers took a break, they received cookies and hot chocolate for snacks in a fire circle.
The volunteers also put up a Christmas tree and decorated it.
