129th Rescue Wing says article had an inaccurate statement
In the Dec. 12 article, "Life Savers," the staff writer reported that the MC-130P tanker flew over an Army "shooting range" at Fort Hunter-Liggett. This statement is inaccurate and may be misinterpreted.
The aircraft did not fly over an Army shooting range. At the time there was an abundance of military activity occurring on the ground and in the air at the fort. The walkie-talkie chatter referenced in the article was the Army ground controllers giving the aircrew a courtesy advisory about activity at a gun range in the aircraft's vicinity. The communication, similar to air traffic control, helps prevent potential conflicts.
The 129th RQW has an outstanding mission and safety record, and lives by its motto, "That others may live."
