Fremont's Magana is the division's best

Every athlete strives to be the best of the best, and this year in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League that title belongs to senior Jairo Magana of the Fremont boy's soccer team.
Magana was named the league's Most Valuable Player after leading the Firebirds to a 9-1-2 league record and the division championship.
Magana wasn't alone in winning a special award. Fremont senior Huy Hoang won the co-Defensive MVP with junior David Kucera of Monta Vista.
Cupertino's senior Jon Buzawa won the Offensive MVP award and Mountain View's junior Max Colehower was named the MVP Goalie for this year.
Fremont can boast five players on the all-league first team. Cesar Molina, Jose Ortiz, Efrain Vasquez, Jerry Ayound and Giovanny Luna all were named to the first team, while Rodrigo Valencia and James Ortiz were Fremont players on the second team.
Monta Vista's girls soccer team had one of the strongest defenses in the division thanks to the league's top two defenders. Senior Shandon Rovetta was named the Defensive MVP, while senior Kendra Roseberry was named the Most Valuable Goalie in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL.
Monta Vista finished in second place this season behind Los Altos with a 6-1-5 record. Due to their efforts, the Matadors had four players named first team all-league and two named to the second team. Senior defender Rosa Ahn, sophomore forwards Cheryl Kute and Michelle Pao and freshman forward Sandra Ley were Monta Vista's first team winners while senior midfielders Kasha Sang and Sarah Trankle were the second team players.
Palo Alto senior Teresa Noyola was named the league MVP in the El Camino Division, while senior Emily Langston was the offensive MVP from Los Altos and Lauren Crum of Los Altos was named Senior of the Year. Los Gatos' Jessica Fee received the Junior of the Year award, while Mountain View's McColl Mathews was named Sophomore of the Year and Gunn's Erin Robinson was the Freshman of the Year.
The boys De Anza Division all-league first team includes: Los Gatos--senior midfielder Phillip Smoley, senior defender Bobby Kent, senior forward Grant James, junior midfielders Marc Tonkel and Jared Bernstein; Palo Alto--senior forward Scott Ostrau, junior midfielder Adam Zernik, sophomore midfielder Jenner Fox, sophomore goalie Peter Johnson; Santa Clara--senior defender Adam Moguel, senior midfielder Trig Adam, sophomore defender Victor Santos; Milpitas--senior midfielder Jose Cruz, junior midfielder Chris Sun, sophomore defender Dinesh Prasad; Gunn--senior midfielder Charles Linares, senior midfielder Boris Burkov; Los Altos--senior defender Mike Clark, junior forward James Sweetman; Saratoga--senior midfielder Kristopher Clark.
Those who received second team all-league honors were: Los Gatos--senior midfielder Brett Litle, junior midfielder Geoff Cleveland; Palo Alto--senior defender Bubba Paruingan, junior forward Michael Hanabusa; Santa Clara--senior defender Didio Medeiros, senior midfielder Zack Perreira; Milpitas--junior defender Kyle Castaneda, sophomore midfielder Peter Nguyen; Gunn--sophomore defender Michael Starr, sophomore defender Scott Baer; Los Altos--senior midfielder Sam Vesuna, sophomore defender Eric Safou; Saratoga--junior midfielder Chris Chung.
