Presentation lost round one.

The Panthers dropped a 62-51 decision to Mitty in the championship game of the New Year's Classic hosted by the Monarchs last week. But Presentation coach Paul Smith is hoping that won't be the last time the two teams play for a title this season.

The Monarchs and Panthers figure to be favorites in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League this winter, and the two teams are expected to battle it out for the division crown.

But when they played for the New Year's Classic title last weekend, it was Mitty (11-2) cruising to a 11-point victory.

Jaleh Donaldson tossed in 16 points, including a three-pointer, and Rosanna Morena drilled 14 points, but the Panthers lost 62-51 to the Monarchs. Molly Shanley chipped in with 11 points, including a three, and Megan Moniz added eight. Sophomore center Sara Werner hit two points.

Shanley and Moniz ended up winning spots on the all-tournament team.

The Panthers, now 9-3 for the year, had knocked off Pinewood (9-3) in the tourney semifinals. Shanley, Werner and Donaldson tossed in 11 points each to share the scoring lead for Presentation. Moreno supported with eight points, Moniz hit six and Jessica Borello dropped five. Shanley, Moreno and Borello each fired in three-pointers.

Rams win again

Dion Saunders poured in 22 points, and Rayvon Jackson bombed 18 to lead the Willow Glen boys' basketball team to a rounsing 62-45 victory over Monta Vista.

The win left the Rams 13-1 for the year heading into play in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL this week.

Saunders buried nine buckets from the field and added four free throws, and Jackson canned six field goals and hit six charity throws in the win over the Matadors.

Nich Holt supported with seven points in the win, and Manny Myers dropped six. Myers drained a pair of three-pointers, and Holt hit one. Eric Dean also hit a three, and Guy Beahm, Cory Warren and Andy Lewis had two points each.

The Rams jumped out to a five-point lead after a period, but the Mats cut the lead to four by the half, 21-17. Willow Glen pushed its lead back to five by the next buzzer, then blitzed Monta Vista 20-8 in the fourth to cruise to the easy win.
