Sue Parisi knew it would happen eventually. But she was starting to get a little worried about when it would be.

The Willow Glen boys soccer coach was wondering when her Rams would break the ice and win their first game in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

They had come close, but the Rams were 0-2-1 in league play heading in last Thursday's game at Prospect.

And that's when it happened. The Rams scored goals in each half on the road to a satisfying 2-0 win over the Panthers.

Senior Oscar Garcia scored both goals for Willow Glen, one off an assist from junior Osbaldo Gonzales and the other off an assist from sophomore Gilbert Lozoya.

The win helped the Rams improve to 1-2-1 in league play and to 3-6-2 for the year. They'll be out to improve on their record this week when they visit Santa Teresa on Jan. 11, 3:15 p.m.

Willow Glen lost a tough 3-1 decision to Leigh to open play last week. Gonzales scored a first-half goal to help send the Rams in at intermission tied 1-1 with the Longhorns. But the 'Horns knocked in two goals in the second half to pull out the victory.

The Willow Glen girls, meanwhile, matched the effort of the boys by splitting a pair of games in Santa Teresa Division play.

The Rams were blanked 1-0 by Valley Christian to open the week, but battled back to whip Lincoln 4-1 two days later.

Lindsey Rovai scored two goals off assists from Jenny Holt and Kelsey Giambruno, and Stephanie Ogletree finished with a goal and an assist. Lisa Hunter scored off the Ogletree assist and Aubrey Schatz had the assist on Ogletree's goal.

The Rams jumped out to a commanding lead with three goals in the first half, then matched Lincoln's only goal in the second half to win 4-1.

The win evened Willow Glen's league record at 2-2. The Rams are 3-6-1 for the year.

    Panthers win a pair

The Presentation girls basketball team pulled out two wins last week in Mt. Hamilton Division play, beating Valley Christian 64-60 and Independence 44-35.

Katie Passalacqua buried 19 points to lead the Panthers to the four-point win over the Warriors. Christa Conlin supported with 12 points and Katherine McLaughlin had a pair of three-pointers among her 11 points. Nicole Yarwasky joined the three in double figures with 10 points. Liz Cirone added seven points in the win.

Passalacqua came back with 18 points to lead the Panthers past the 76ers. Yarwasky chipped in with eight points, Katie Mello hit a pair of threes to finish with six points, McLaughlin had a three among her five points and Cirone hit four points.

Presentation is now 2-0 in division play and 7-5 for the year.

    Rams fall

Junior guard Joe Gutierrez tossed in 14 points, but the Willow Glen boys basketball team lost its Santa Teresa Division opener 55-34 to Yerba Buena last week.

The Warriors outscored the Rams in every period on the road to their second league win. It was the first league game for the Rams, who are now 2-13 overall this season.

Pete Watts tossed in a couple of three-point buckets to finish the night with six points. Jon Williams had five points, Adam Saucedo four, Mihn Phan three and Mike Puthoff two.

    Girls lose two

The Willow Glen girls lost two games last week, falling 78-19 to Leigh and 33-20 to Pioneer.

Junior Andrea Rojas tossed in seven points and Christine Ha added six, but the Rams lost by 13 to the Mustangs. Bianca Gomez supported with three points, and she and Rojas each popped three-pointers.

The Rams lost their Santa Teresa Division opener 78-19 to Leigh. Gomez led the club with five points, including a three.

    Chavez, Lopez win

Senior Henry Chavez and sophomore Steve Lopez were both winners, but the Willow Glen wrestling team dropped a lopsided 57-21 decision to powerful Oak Grove in Mt. Hamilton Division action last week.

Chavez pinned 21 seconds in the third round at 140 pounds for the Rams and Lopez pulled out a tight 11-7 victory at 152 pounds.

Before winter break, the Rams managed a solid second-place finish at their own Willow Glen Dual Meet tournament. The Rams made it to the finals before losing 37-16 to Live Oak.

Willow Glen posted a 4-1 record in the tournament. Among the victories for the Rams was a lopsided 43-28 win over the King's Academy.

Pins by Ureal Rivero at 119, Daniel Valadez at 135, Adam Copas at 152, Adrian Morales at 160 and Scott Favin at 275 sparked the Rams to the win over the Knights.

Chavez won 5-3 at 145 and Frank Saraina won 11-3 at 130 pounds. Memo Rivera won by forfeit at 171 pounds.
