The Willow Glen ResidentSports BriefsHot Stove Banquet Longtime Bay Area baseball broadcaster Lon Simmons will be the guest of honor when the 15th annual Hot Stove Banquet returns to the Santa Clara Valley on Feb. 1 at Lou's Village on San Carlos Street in San Jose. Tickets for the night's event are available, and festivities will begin with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The awards presentation begins at 8 p.m. Proceeds from the banquet benefit youth baseball programs in the area. Lincoln Glen Little League The Lincoln Glen Little League will hold signups for the 1999 season on Jan. 21, 6-9 p.m., and Jan. 23, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at River Glen Park. The league is open to players ages 5-18 (as of July 31, 1999). Proof of residency is required for all players, and new players must provide a birth certificate. Athletes will compete in open, masters' men, women's, boys and girls divisions. The cost is $3 for athletes and $2 for spectators. Proceeds go toward track resurfacing at the high school. Pitching program West Valley Community College pitching coach Burch Boehner will present a winter pitching program Wednesday evenings, Jan. 27-March 10, in the West Valley gym in Saratoga. Players ages 9-10 attend at 7 p.m., and players ages 11-12 attend at 8 p.m. Preseason arm conditioning, pitching fundamentals, arm care and defensive skills will be covered in the program.
