    WG Wherehouse closed

    By Kate Carter

Willow Glen's Wherehouse music and video store, at 1087 Meridian Ave., closed Jan. 20. The chain store's district management office informed the store's eight employees of the imminent closing Jan. 15, according to the store's staff.

"We sort of knew before that," said store manager Kristin McCollum, who added that a management representative a couple of months ago left out a paper suggesting the store would close.

McCollum said the store is one of five in the Bay Area that are closing.

"We don't really get a lot of business in here," McCollum said. "We're just sort of a community record store."

The store carries new and used CDs and DVDs as well as VHS videos, blank tapes and CDs and players.

The five full-time and three part-time employees will continue to work at the store until Jan. 31, she said. They will find out this week if they will be transferred to different stores after that, or if they will lose their jobs, she said.

District office representatives were unavailable for comment.

McCollum said the store's property manager has put the facility up for lease.
