Crab fest benefits Leland music dept.
The Leigh High School Instrumental Music Program presents Crab Fest 2001 on Feb. 3, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the high school's cafeteria. The all-you-can-eat meal is a fundraiser for the music program and will feature fresh, cracked dungeness crab and Cornish game hen, rice pilaf, green salad, bread, vegetables, chips and salsa and assorted desserts. Door prizes, music, a raffle and a silent auction will also be part of the evening's activities. Proceeds from the event benefit the instrumental music department. Tickets are $30 per person. Religious orders to hold open houses
Nineteen men's and women's religious orders in the Bay Area invite the public to open houses on Consecrated Life Day on Feb. 4, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Open house locations are Carmelites at 12455 Clayton Road, San Jose; Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur at 2668 Loomis Drive, San Jose and 173 Leota Ave, Sunnyvale; and Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary at 219 Bean Ave, Los Gatos.
Neurodevelopmental Disorder Workshop
The HANDLE Institute of Washington presents a comprehensive workshop on observational assessment and non-drug treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders Feb. 24 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the San Jose Unified district office, 885 Lenzen Ave, Room 133, San Jose. The workshop will focus on the causes of learning and social difficulties related to neurodevelopmental disorders. Participants are asked to register early. Ball will benefit kids with disabilities
Via Rehabilitation Services is hosting the sixth annual Flirter's Ball, 'For the Love of Children,' on Feb. 9, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight at the Capital Athletic Club in San Jose. The fundraiser will benefit programs for children with disabilities. Celebrity chefs will prepare a gourmet dinner, and music will be provided by the Joe Sharino Band. The event has raised more than $200,000 to support programs for children with disabilities in Santa Clara County since 1995. Via's goal, since its inception in 1945 as the Crippled Children's Society, is to provide innovative programs for clients with a broad range of developmental, physical, communicative and learning disorders. Via's Camp Costanoan provides year-round therapeutic recreation and family respite in the foothills of Cupertino. Tickets are $150 per person. For more information, call L.T. Beaton at 408.243.7861.
International Music Night at Baha'i Center
The Baha'i Center of Willow Glen will host an evening of international music on Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the center, 945 Willow St. A music and dance presentation by the Baha'i Youth Workshop will be featured, and refreshments will be provided. For more information, call 408.282.9033.
Taize service planned at Stone Church
A Taize service will be held on Feb. 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Stone Church of Willow Glen, 1108 Clark Way, San Jose. The ecumenical candlelight service will include music, meditation and sacred silence, and is open to the public. Child care will be provided.
