Seven lucky number for RamsWozny notches six goals, five assists in two gamesBy Dick Sparrer Some folks consider seven to be a lucky number. It certainly was for the Willow Glen girls' soccer team last week when the Rams scored seven goals in each game on the way to easy wins over Gunderson and San Jose. Some might say seven was a lucky number for the Rams last week. Others, though, may tell you it had nothing to do with luck. Willow Glen has had more than luck on its side this winter. The Rams are 9-1 in league play and dominating the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. And they are where they are largely because of the offensive explosion by freshman forward Colleen Wozny. Wozny had a hand--or, rather, a foot--in 11 of Willow Glen's 14 goals last week with six goals and five assists. Wozny came through with four goals and gave away a pair of assists in the 7-0 win over San Jose. Melissa Ybarra supported with two goals and an assist, and Kellie Arnone had a goal and an assist. Kristen Rovai chipped in with three assists for the winners. The Rams led just 1-0 at the half but bombed the Bulldogs for six goals in the second half to cruise to the win. Earlier in the week, Wozny knocked home two goals and gave away three assists in the 7-0 win over Gunderson. Kristina Gerard added two goals, and Ybarra had a goal and an assist. Lindsey Rovai and Amy Johnson each had goals for the Rams in the win, and Arnone and Carley Lawrence dished out assists. Willow Glen was up just 2-0 at the break but pumped in five goals in the second half to turn a close game into a rout. The Rams are back in action this week hosting James Lick on Feb. 3 and visiting Yerba Buena on Feb. 6 in a pair of 3:15 p.m. games. The Willow Glen boys, meanwhile, split a pair of games last week in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL. The Rams beat Mt. Pleasant 3-2 but were blanked 2-0 by Leigh. Willow Glen is now 4-4-2 in division play and 8-4-3 for the year. Roberto Molina knocked in two goals to lead the Rams to the tight 3-2 win over Mt. Pleasant to open the week. The Presentation girls' socceer team maintained its winning ways in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL with back-to-back wins over Mitty and Leigh last week. Rachel Neustadter knocked in a first half goal off a Breana Boling assist, and Stephanie Neustadter scored in the second half off a Boling assist to lead the Panthers to the 2-0 win over the Monarchs. Boling and Adrianne Rizzo each scored goals a couple of days later in the tight 2-1 win over Leigh. Presentation is now 7-0 in division play and 10-1 for the year. The Panthers hit the road to visit Independence on Feb. 3 before hosing Mitty on Feb. 5 in a couple of 3:15 p.m. games this week.
