WG schools rewarded for high test scores

Willow Glen's seven public schools will begin receiving a total of $367,442 from the state this month. The money is part of the governor's performance awards program, which rewards schools that meet improvement criteria on the 2000 Stanford 9 standardized tests, compared with their performances on the 1999 tests.

All Willow Glen's schools were eligible for the money when their students' averaged test scores, which make up the schools' academic performance index ratings, achieved or surpassed their target scores. Students in state-defined socioeconomically disadvantaged or ethnically significant subgroups also met improvement goals, another requirement for receiving the funds.

The amount of money each school receives is based on a complex calculation of student enrollment, with $63 going to each student. Willow Glen High School will receive $88,584 and Willow Glen Middle School will receive $71,551. Of the five elementary schools, Booksin will receive $48,439; Gardner--439,638; River Glen--$28,304; Schallenberger--$45,273; and Willow Glen--$45,653.

Comedy at San Pedro Square is extended

    Now there's even more love.

Demand for tickets to the latest production by San Jose's Theater on San Pedro Square has led the company to extend shows of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change through May 27, 2001.

The show, a musical revue/sketch comedy about male-female relationships, opened in October with plans to run until mid-November, theater publicist Dan Orloff said. Instead, the theater has added six more months of the show, which is directed by Gary DeMattei.

Performances are Wednesday through Saturday, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, at 2 p.m. Tickets cost between $20 and $30 and are available at the Theater on San Pedro Square box office at 29 N. San Pedro Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by calling 408.283.0200. For more information, visit www.TOSPS.com.
