With each game, the Presentation Panthers seem to be stepping closer to another soccer championship in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

The Presentation girls took two more steps in that direction last week with a win and a tie to push their record to 10-0-2 in the division and to 14-2-2 for the year.

The Panthers blanked Independence 2-0 last week for their 10th league victory. Megan Chimenti and Kelly Sweitzer each scored goals off Erica Timiraos assists to lift Pres to the win.

Earlier in the week, Stephanie Neustadter knocked in a goal and assisted Timiraos on another to help the Panthers claim a 2-2 tie against Prospect.

The Panthers had whipped Leland 3-1 and shut out Leigh 2-0 in league play a week earlier.

Sweitzer had a goal and an assist to lead Presentation to the win over the Chargers. Chimenti and Kelly Pryor also had goals in the game, and Timiraos and Neustadter added assists.

Goals by Rachel Field and Allison Moore off assists from Timiraos and Sweitzer sparked the Panthers to the important 2-0 win over Leigh later in the week.

In Santa Teresa Division play last week, the Willow Glen girls lost a couple of 2-1 decisions, falling to Del Mar, then Mt. Pleasant.

Audrey Schatz knocked in a second-half goal off an assist from Lindsey Rovai, but the Rams lost 2-1 to the Dons to open the week.

Sophomore forward Colleen Wozny, sidelined much of the year, scored off an Allison Lake assist in the 2-1 loss to Mt. Pleasant to wrap up the week.

The two losses dropped the Rams to 2-10 in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL and to 4-12-1 for the year.

The Rams had lost two of three the week earlier. They dropped a tough 2-1 nod to Pioneer, beat Valley Christian 2-1, then were crushed 7-0 by Lincoln.

Two goals by Kristen Rovai off assists from Melissa Ybarra and Schatz sparked the Rams to the 2-1 win over the Warriors.

Amy Johnson had scored off an L. Rovai assist in the 2-1 loss to the Mustangs.

Rams fall

The Willow Glen boys, meanwhile, slipped to 2-4-3 in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL after a tough 2-1 loss to Leigh last week.

The clubs were locked in a scoreless tie at the half, but the Rams could score just one goal to Leigh's two in the second half.

A week earlier, the Rams dropped a similar 2-1 decision to Valley Christian.

The Warriors scored a first-half goal to lead 1-0 at intermission. Willow Glen's Jose Diaz scored off a Juan Rivera assist in the second half, but Valley matched that goal to pull out the tight victory.

Willow Glen battled first-place Del Mar to a 2-2 tie later that week.

The Rams close out the regular season this week when they host Independence on Feb. 10 and visit Valley Christian on Feb. 12 in a pair of 3:15 p.m. games.

Rams win by one

The Willow Glen boys basketball team pulled out a thrilling 41-40 win over Prospect in Santa Teresa Division play last week.

Manny Myers had just three points for the Rams, but his free throw in the final seconds broke a 40-40 tie and lifted Willow Glen to the victory.

Guy Beahm led all scorers for the Rams in the win with 12 points. David Macchi had 11 points, including a three-pointer, and Ben Fuller added 10. Nich Holt supported with five points, including a three.

The Rams were up 26-13 at the half after outscoring the Panthers 12-2 in the second period. But Prospect cut the 13-point lead by eight in the third quarter and by four more in the fourth, only to come up a point short.

Willow Glen improved to 6-2 in the division with the win. The Rams are 11-9 for the year.

The Willow Glen girls dropped a 45-39 decision to Lincoln in the West Valley Division.

Marcella Prada dropped 15 points, including a couple of threes, and Kelly McCloskey added 11 points. Andrea Rojas and Courtney Livak hit four apiece, Christine Ha hit a three, and Shannon Donovan had two.
