Baseball Camp

The high school baseball coaching staff at Willow Glen will host a special spring training mini-camp for players ages 8-12 on Feb. 13 with sessions 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

The camp features instruction from Willow Glen head coach Gary Rose and his staff on hitting, pitching, fielding, base running and more. The donation per player is a $10 minimum, and proceeds benefit the Willow Glen High School baseball program.

Wedemeyer Gala

The first annual Charlie Wedemeyer Celebration Gala, honoring outstanding Bay Area high school seniors, will be held May 20, 6 p.m., in the Imperial Ballroom at the Fairmont Hotel.

Special guests for the evening event include Peggy Fleming, Jan Hutchins, Michael Nouri and John Ralston.

Scholarships of $1,000 each will be presented to college-bound athletes who have overcome adversity or challenge and who have demonstrated a positive attitude in helping others.

Valentine Run

The annual Valentine 10K fun run and 5K walk returns to Campbell on Feb. 13, 9 a.m. The event begins at Water Tower Plaza, First Street and Orchard City Drive in downtown Campbell, and the cost is $15 per entrant. Awards will be presented in the 10K division only. For more information, call 866-2105.

Coaches needed

The Central Valley Youth Soccer League is looking for coaches in the Class 1 (select) and Class 3 (comp) divisions for boys and girls teams in the under-9 through under-17 age divisions for the 1999 season. Anyone interested should call league coaching director, Greg Pinelli, at 266-5899 or 267-0740.

Adult sports

Signups for teams and individuals interested in playing in the San Jose adult volleyball and basketball leagues are now being accepted.

Registration begins Feb. 15 for the adult basketball season. The cost is $340 per team for the six-game season.

Volleyball league play begins Feb. 22 in the gym at the Camden Lifetime Activities Center. The cost is $235 per team and the registration deadline is Feb. 19.
