Jaguars top Vikings in impressive win

Dave Fergerson and Lynn Washington buried 13 points apiece to lead the San Jose City College men's basketball team to an impressive 68-57 win over West Valley Community College last week.

The clubs went into the game battling for first place in the Coast Conference, and San Jose's victory leaves the two tied for the conference lead with matching 5-1 records. West Valley is now 23-2 for the year, and the Jaguars are 24-4.

Reggie Williams pitched in 12 points for the Jags in the win, and Dontay Harris, Shawn Harris and Jens Jensen finished with nine each. Rashad Jones (Bellarmine) added three, Matt McDonald two and Omar Melton one.

The lady Jaguars remain unbeaten

The San Jose City College women's basketball team continued its winning ways in the Coast Conference and held onto its No. 2 state ranking with a pair of wins last week.

The Lady Jaguars ripped Chabot 53-32 and backed that up with an 82-51 win over the College of San Mateo to improve to 10-0 in the conference and to 27-1 for the year.

Arbatisha Kitchen tossed in 15 points to lead the Lady Jags to the win over the Bulldogs. Cortney Keegan (St. Francis) supported with 14 points.

Nina Vinther (Los Gatos) jammed 11 points, and Christina Lombardo (Leigh) added 10 for the Jaguars. Natalia Jonas had nine points, Kristie Reed eight, Tami Monson (Mitty) and Brie Ahern (Homestead) seven apiece and Jamila Johnson one.

The Lady Jags had opened the week with a lopsided 53-32 win over Chabot. Abby Lopes (Del Mar) led San Jose with 12 points, and Vinther had eight. Monson hit seven, Keegan and Kitchen five apiece, Ahern and Johnson four each, La-Keeshia Thomas three, Jonas and Gina Paradiso (Cupertino) two apiece and Lombardo one.

San Jose hosts Foothill on Feb. 11, 7 p.m., in its only game this week.

The women of De Anza Community College, meanwhile, topped the century mark last week in a 102-79 Coast Conference win over Ohlone. The Lady Dons improved to 7-2 in the conference and to 22-7 for the year with the win.

Stephanie Harris topped the Dons with 27 points, and Jane Riley (Westmont) fired in 19. Kerri Dunn (Presentation) supported with 17 points.
