Around The Glen
Construction Meeting at WG Elementary
School district officials and other construction representatives will discuss plans to renovate portions of Willow Glen Elementary School at a community meeting next week.
The elementary school is scheduled to receive a new modular administration building and new portable kindergarten classrooms this summer. New paint, furniture and other improvements are also planned. Parents and neighbors made comments and suggestions about the plan at a meeting last December. Principal Anita Sunseri said the upcoming meeting will include an update on changes made to the plan since December.
The meeting will take place Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at the school, located at Lincoln and Minnesota avenues.

County redistricting hearing open to public
County residents will get their first opportunity this week to hear about and comment on plans for changing the boundaries of the county's five supervisorial districts.
State and federal laws require counties to review and revise districts every 10 years, county redistricting program Director Andrea Boyd Ball said. The county must have new boundaries drawn and adopted by Sept. 28. The new districts will affect the March 2002 elections, she added.
A 15-member citizens' committee appointed by the board of supervisors will use census data available after April 1 to make the boundary changes, Ball said. The public will be able to comment on the process at several hearings scheduled for the coming months, as well as at the committee meetings on the third Wednesday of each month, she said.
The first public hearing is scheduled for Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. at the board of supervisors' chambers at the County Government Center, 70 W. Hedding St. For more information, call Ball at 408.299.3800, ext. 7301, or visit www.sccredistricting.org.

Strong Neighborhoods Community Meetings
There are a few more opportunities for members of the Gardner, Atlanta and Gregory Plaza neighborhoods to suggest improvements to their community.
The neighborhood advisory committee is working with city officials to devise a plan for using money from the strong neighborhoods initiative to make their streets and buildings safer and more attractive. The next committee meetings are scheduled for Feb. 26 and March 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gardner Community Center, 520 W. Virginia Ave. The city will provide dinner at 6:30 p.m., said city planner Deborah Kim.
She also said a progress report from the meetings would be presented at a community workshop in March. The last workshop to view the final draft of the plan is planned for late April.
