The Willow Glen ResidentAround The GlenSchool grads and kids share prayer and memories Thirty-three former students of St. Christopher School, whose children now attend their alma mater, came together Jan. 30 for a prayer service to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Many of the same teachers who instructed the adult alumnae attended as well. The week-long annual event ended with the prayer service and a luncheon with parish and school staff. Individual pictures had been taken of each parent and his or her child, and the photographs were framed and presented to each parent at the service. "It was just wonderful. Our first principal [Sr. Mary Grace Feldhause] was there. It was just a great time and a lot of fun," said Sharon Drake of St. Christopher's. The National Catholic Education Association presents schools with a different theme each year, Drake said. This year, St. Christopher was given the theme of restoring faith in education. St. Christopher School, located at 2278 Booksin Ave., opened its doors in 1955. --Christine M. Lias Agency will host an 'exotic' travel seminar series The R.T. Lias Library calls for a moment of silence to celebrate reading To celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2, the San Jose Public Library will sponsor "Drop Everything & READ" as part of Read Across America, a national celebration of reading. Library visitors throughout the city will be asked to stop what they are doing at 3:30 and 7 p.m. to participate in a few moments of silent reading. Children are particularly encouraged to read on March 2, said Ja-lih Lee, outreach librarian for San Jose Public Library. "People can wring their hands about the decline of the family, the influence of television, the power of pop culture and a dozen other reasons why our children are not reading, or they can take action," Lee said. To register families for the event, log on to the library's Web site. --Christine M. Lias
