Just getting to the finals in Central Coast Section championship play is quite an accomplishment for any team. But getting there and winning it all is the ultimate achievement.
The Presentation girls soccer team achieved one accomplishment, but not the other when the Panthers made it to the CCS Division II championship game, only to lose a 3-2 heartbreaker to Harbor in overtime.
The Panthers earned their place in the finals with a 2-0 win over Palo Alto and a 3-1 victory over Notre Dame-Belmont. Once there, Presentation matched Harbor goal for goal in regulation, but the Pirates scored in overtime to claim the CCS championship.
Taylor Numann scored two goals to help push the title game to its limits. The clubs were locked in a 2-2 at the end of regulation before the Bucs won it in OT.
Presentation earned its place in the championship match with a convincing 3-1 win over Notre Dame-Belmont in the semifinals. Junior midfielder Aubrey Ellzey had two goals and an assist to lead the Panthers to the important win.
Belmont knocked in a first-half goal to lead 1-0 at intermission, but Ellzey knotted the game 1-1 with an unassisted goal early in the second half.
Ellzey scored off assists from sophomore Nicki Nigos and senior Jennifer Tuttle to give the Panthers the lead, then Nigos scored off an Ellzey assist to give Presentation an insurance goal.
Goals by Tuttle and sophomore Amanda Brandt had given the Panthers a 2-0 win over Palo Alto in the first round of the playoffs.
Presentation finished the season 12-5-6 overall.
