Free income tax help, counseling offered to seniors

Senior citizens, the disabled and low-income persons can obtain free tax preparation help and counseling at the town of Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St., every Tuesday, from 9 to 11 a.m., now through April 10. The program is provided by the American Association of Retired Persons. Appointments are required; call 408.354.1514 for more information.

Senior Friends can get advice from pharmacist

Good Samaritan Hospital, at 2425 Samaritan Drive at the San Jose/Los Gatos border, encourages all interested local senior citizens in the West Valley area to join its chapter of the National Association of Senior Friends, a nonprofit hospital-based health and wellness program open to anyone 50 and older. The seniors in Good Sam's growing group take part in months filled with activities, outings and informational programs. Some are free; others have small fees.

One of the more popular events, Ask-A-Pharmacist, takes place March 26, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the hospital lobby. A pharmacist will be available to review medications, discuss possible side effects and drug interactions and provide instructions and tips on proper use.

Other Senior Friends activities include exercise programs, lectures, workshops, movies, theater performances, a Lunch Bunch, mature driving courses and cooking classes.

Membership is $15 per year. For more information, call 408.559.2555.
