Fourth Heroines in History contest begins

Victory Press announces its fourth annual Heroines in History national writing contest for youth ages 7 to 15.

This year's theme is "Unsung Heroines in History." The submission period for handwritten essays is March 1-31, during Women's History Month.

Essays will be judged on originality, content, writing style, and grammar and punctuation. The grand prize winner receives $500, plus publication.

For suggested writing topics and submission writing guidelines, visit www.HeroinesInHistory.com.

Last year's Heroines in History essay contest winner was 12-year-old Margaret Bray of North Andover, Ma., who wrote on pioneering computer scientist "Amazing Grace Hopper."

Last year's judges included award-winning children's book author Jeri Ferris, retired journalist Carol Ryan and professor of women's studies at Monterey Peninsula College, Pat Hanson.

In addition, last year six out of the 16 students who won awards were home-schooled.

Winning essays for the last three years can be viewed at www.HeroinesInHistory.com.

Those interested may submit essays, along with name, date of birth, address, phone number, school name and email address (if available) to Victory Press, Heroines in History Essay Contest, 543 Lighthouse Ave., Monterey, CA 93940.
